How to Find Us

What is a Story Sack?

A Story Sack is a bag containing a story book with supporting materials to stimulate reading activities. There are lots of different Story Sacks covering a variety of interests. To bring the book to life there may be: soft toys of the main characters, items relating to the story, a non fiction book relating in some way to the story book and a game; in some sacks there is also an audio tape to accompany the book. Additionally there is a Parent Guide and a prompt card. The prompt card suggests ideas for further learning.

Who can use the Story Sack?

Girls in Nursery and Reception classes can use the story sacks. The sacks are suitable for children of three years and above- so please take care if there are younger siblings at home.

How does the Story Sack system work?

A list of Story Sacks will be in the Nursery and Reception foyers on alternate weeks. Sign up for the Story Sack that your daughter has chosen. Story Sacks can be taken home on Wednesday afternoon. Don’t worry if your daughter does not attend on Wednesdays, she can collect her Story Sack on her next school day. The Story Sacks need to be returned on Monday of the following week. If your daughter does not attend on Mondays, please return the Story Sack at the earliest opportunity.

A special time

When you take a sack home please make a special time for an adult to share it with your daughter, as it’s easy for small parts to become lost or damaged; if this happens then the sack cannot go out again until the parts are found or replaced.

The Story Sacks have worked well in the past and brought enjoyment to many girls. The sacks are sorted and checked by parent volunteers; we are always looking for extra help, if you wish to be involved please see a member of staff.
